Matt and I have a knack (obsession?) with mottos for motivation. Here's a few of our favorites - please share yours!

KAED - stands for Kick Ass Every Day - hope you're not easily offended. If you are, say Kick Agenda Every Day Smiler

Ever Forward

Activity Is Victory

All About August - we coined this one last weekend while getting ourselves pumped for our 2nd month of THRIVE!. So-much-to-do!

You forgot "Let's THRIVE! it out!"

That just might be my favorite.

On the subject of mottos:

A friend of mine had a great response whenever someone would do something nice for him. He would say:

"Who's Better Than You?"

I have blantantly stolen that line and now I use it everywhere. Work, home, restaurants, the Registry of Motor Vehicles...(okay, that was a stretch).

Anyway, every time I say it, the person on the receiving end gets a broad smile across their face - it's fantastic!!

So for all those THRIVE! members who've joined our boards and shared their comments and stories, I sincerely ask:

Who's better than you?

Nobody!

Here's another quote for you that I just read:

Perfect is the enemy of good.

I think that dovetails nicely with Activity is Victory.

I have a pocket full of great mottos, but I heard one inspirational riddle the other day that I thought was great.

Five cats are sitting on a fence.

Three of the five cats decide to jump off the fence.

How many cats are still on the fence?

Two cats.... right????

Wrong, three of the cats decided to jump, but they never took action.

Deciding to do something and actually doing it are very different things.

Whatever your goals in life are (and they had better be written down) you must take action every single day - no matter how small the step may seem.

Wow! That's deep. Thanks for the reminder that doing little things is just as big as doing big things, and so much more effective than doing nothing at all.

Doug,

Thanks for sharing that riddle - I love it!!

It's simple but effective. Ironically, that makes it the exact opposite of real cats. (Spoken like a true dog person.)

I'm glad that you decided to join our achievement community and and I'm thrilled that you took action. It's great to have you.

I recently read something (which I'm paraphrasing slightly) that to me seems rather motto-vational:

What's the most important step you can take to achieve a goal?

(Think about it.....)

The next one.

I once heard a proverb that I have been thinking about alot lately....

"The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago... the second best time is today."

Glad to see I'm not the only one out there who thrives...pardon the pun, on mottos, My personal motto for this past year has been "failure is not an option" most famously coined of course by mission control during the apollo 13 crisis. When I start gravitating towards negative thinking regarding a goal, I remind myself that failure is not an option.....Great forum here by the way, I just found it and am enjoying the positive nature of it all.

I think that Sue's "failure is not an option" is certainly a motivation for many of us. It strengthens our resolve and let's us know that we can endure almost anything if the mission depends on it.

I would like to submit a seemingly contradictory motto that can also be appropriate when used in the right situation:

Fail with Flair

I think too many of us feel uptight about striking out. What we sometimes forget is that failure is a natural part of the learning process - it just means that we're giving it our all.

You can't win them all. If you try, you're simply not opening yourself up to all of the learning that is rightfully yours. Don't just accept failure - rejoice in it! You'll earn those scars, doggone it!

Clearly, this motto wouldn't have been appropriate for the Apollo 13 mission that Sue mentioned, but I do believe it still has its place!

Thanks!!

Hello everyone. This is my first post to this forum. I think I have a great motto and I picked it up from my son when he was 3. He is now 10 and I still use it. When he was in preschool he had the unfortunate dilemma of changing "teachers". He went through a pretty rough transition period. One day when I picked him up, I asked him how his day went. He just looked at me with eyes wide and dancing. His response was "Happy all day, Mom. Happy all day". Now whenever someone asks me "How are you?" - My response - "Happy All Day!" Life is grand. Thanks for Thrive!

Your welcome, MM! And thank you for an awesome post that made me "Happy All Day" too.

It reminds me of a comic on my 'fridge from Rose is Rose (Yes, I know, not the manliest of comic strips but at least it's not Cathy).

Rose is watching her son, Pasqale, leap around in a frenzy of joy. She asks him what he's so happy about. He thinks for a moment and then runs off shouting, "I'll go find something!".

Rose, oberving her son's happiness, thinks to herself, "I've had that backwards all these years."

I also still like the Partridge Family refrain, "C'mon Get Happy". Sometimes it's just a simple choice of attitude.

Nice motto, MagnetMom. I really like "Happy All Day". If that's not a great goal, I don't know what is.

One thing to think about is what happens during those times when we're not happy. (Hey, it's life - it's going to happen.) These times present us with one of two opportunities:

1. Change your perspective. Maybe you're just looking at things from the wrong angle. Can a change of vantage point change your outlook?

2. Change your life. If your challenge is more deeply rooted, what are you going to do about it? You don't have to wait until the problem goes away to start feeling better about things. Just taking the first step to address a shortfall gives you the right to be happy.

Thanks again MagnetMom. Great stuff to think about and a great motto.

I know this isn't exactly a motto, but I just came acros this quote, which I thought was particularly THRIVE!-worthy:

quote:
When you take a risk and step out of the norm, you run the risk and sometimes you fail. But you can only fail if you give up.

Of course, if you don't quite reach your goal, you can always do what Matt says and Fail with Flair!
