I have to admit that I was a little late to the iPod revolution, but I love my new Mini. We all know that music has a way of setting the tempo for our activities and influencing our mood. Let's face it - music rocks.

One of my favorite "get moving" songs right now is Hey Mama from the Black Eyed Peas. It's sassy (explicit), but with an upbeat tempo that makes me want to tear into my day. If I need a pick me up, that song goes on.

When I'm in a "feel good" mood, I throw on a little Rio from Duran Duran. I sing along at the top of my lungs on the way to work. (Okay, I probably shouldn't have admitted that in public.)

Anyway, which songs help you get moving? Who's at the top of your playlist right now?

Ever since it popped up on my iPod during a short run last week, I've been THRIVING to some vintage R.E.M. from the Eponymous disc. I think the specific song was Radio Free Europe.

The lead off beats got me revved up and suddenly I was flying along.

I've had the disc in the car ever since. I'm sure by next week I'll be on to something else. Can't wait to find out what!

The song RIGHT NOW by Sammy Hagar is a good THRIVE song. or is that Van Halen. . .whichever. . .I can clean the house faster with it on. But mostly Sammy just rocks. He is like a human lightning bolt, if you ever see him in concert. I don't own an IPOD and probably never will. I do own an old RIO player that can hold like 2.1 songs on it. I guess I haven't really met up with the whole concept of hearing your favorite songs over and over again. The songs are my favorites because I don't get to hear them everyday! Does everyone have the "BOB" radio station? That is such a great concept of random music format. . .don't you agree?

Thanks to Guac, I can't get the Van Hagar song Right Now out of my head. It sure does get you going.

I'm also really picked up by anything by the Beastie Boys. One favorite is Intergalactic. They're pretty much the coolest all around.

Lately, I've been THRIVING out to Ben Folds' Landed. It's about realizing when someone is making you not be who you are, and doing something about it. (Ok, it's about a guy reconnecting with an old friend after breaking up with his controlling wife, but it's because of the other stuff I said.) Aside from being a great song to sing along to at the top of your lungs, while everyone else in traffic thinks you're probably having a seizure, it's a great reminder to be true to yourself. (Ok, there I go being all serious. Sorry about that!)

I would have to choose "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim McGraw. I just pumps the heck out of me and reminds me life is too short to stand around and let it pass you by. i listened to it last week actually on my way to my weekly golf outing, which by the way I WON!!!!!!!! and handily I might add. better luck next time boys!

Of course Aerosmith's "Dream On" always works too

Jocepheus - I like your variety of THRIVE-alicious tunes! May I suggest Nickel Creek's "Smoothie Song" as a worthy addition? I think of it as a THRIVIN' kind of tune. (No words, just jamming.)

David - Here's a (low key) song for your next golf outing: Matt Nathanson's "Little Victories". Ok, maybe you're looking for big victories, but I like his tag line of "I learn to get by on little victories." I mean, Activity is Victory, right?

If you ever want to be entertained, stop by my house and throw in a little I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor and watch my wife sing at the top of her lungs.

She just can't help herself. I think that one is a great THRIVE! song. Proud and defiant. Great to sing when you're having a tough day at work.

Try it. Jump up on your desk and start screaming that song. (And then when you get fired, come back to the THRIVE! boards and declare your goal of getting a new job.)

Seriously, that song can really pick you up!

And if you want a little twist on that one, Cake does a great cover. (Caution, there's a bad word or two...)

I may have adopted a new THRIVE! theme song. You know that Dunkin' Donuts commercial with everyone singing? http://www.tmbw.net/wiki/images/5/5b/Things_I_like_to_do.mp3 (No, this is not a product placement. I don't even drink coffee - really!) Aside from the fact that it seems to be constantly stuck in my head, it makes a good point. "I'm slightly more productive than I previously was" - isn't that reason to celebrate? I mean, activity IS victory. Besides, how can you complain when it's They Might Be Giants?

I don't have an IPOD but I have an MP3 player and I have it loaded with Bon Jovi, the one song that really motivates me is Everyday. But they have a lot of great songs about life.

I have to say that I am very impressed with Jon Bon Jovi. He's been a successful artist for a long time, but he's also parlayed that success into a successful business career. Far from an overnight success, he's certainly making the most of his talents in life.

Plus, he's still got great hair!

Thanks for sharing!
